Abstract:This article examines the discrepancy between consumers´ integral ethical component and behaviour with reference to "techniques of neutralization" (Sykes and Matza 1957). This "technique of neutralization" includes five different rationalizations which can reduce the negative impact on self-image stemming from norm violations. The applicability of the concept of neutralization and the five techniques are concerned through a qualitative study.
