Abstract: | Much interest has recently been paid to the concept of corporate social responsibility. Partly as a reaction to increased interest in the corpoate social responsiveness of business organizations the proportion of outside directors has increased in the boards of corporations. The expectation is that outside directors will advocate greater corporate responsiveness to society's needs by playing a more active role in overseeing managerial decisions. This study determines whether or not these expectations are justified, in particular in the service industry. |
