Abstract:Performance appraisal (hereafter as: p-apr.) research over the last 10 yrs. has examined the effects of the social context (here as: s-c.) on the appraisal process. Drawing from previous theoretical work, this paper developed a model, conducting a systematic review of the relevant research. The review of over 300 articles suggests that as a field we have become much more cognizant of the importance of the s-c. within which the p-apr. process operates. After a more detailed presentation, it is concluded that the focus of recent p-arp. research has widespread implications ranging from theory development and enhancement to practical application.
