Abstract:This paper presents a précis of a communicative theory of the firm by arguing that the recent philosophy of J. Habermas is fruitful in providing a normative foundation for assessing an array of problems in business ethics, e.g. corporate social responsibility, stakeholder entitlements and obligations, managerial decision-making, and corporate governance. It is argued that there are two general ways in which communicative ethics is relevant to these questions in business ethics.
