Abstract:Several theories, like the theory of knowledge, present knowledge (henceforth as: kn.) as a fundamental resource to reach sustainable competitive advantages. Managing the kn. is seen important as generating motor of intellectual capital in organizations. In this process, cooperation btw. companies belongs to the main forms to acquire needed kn. Using data of 139 companies of the Spanish optical sector and through two structural equation models, this paper analyzes the opportunities offered by strategic alliances as source of kn. The results indicate that 'organizational learning' is unlikely on an organization basis without being fostered by exploration (of) kn. among partners.
