Abstract:Using data from corporate websites and interviews with corporate spokespersons, this paper aims to identify the basic characteristics of a selection of corporate human rights (here as: HRs) programmes (as: CHRPs) together with aspects of the discourse. After identifying a number of key obstacles to the process of dissemination, it is suggested that the impact of CHRPs, on both respective organisations and the HRs situation at large, is likely to be marginal. This outcome is reinforced by the fact that the most serious abusers of HRs are agents of the state over whom firms have limited leverage. Nonetheless, in spite of - and in a sense because of - these limited gains so far as to the core HRs, continuing corporate activity in the area is being channelled into community development projects.
