Abstract:The article concentrates on conceptualization and measurement of human resource systems, and analyses the essence of human resource practices in Britain. The authors aim to find out if the Bailey’s (1993) three dimensions of ‘high performance work systems’ can be found in the managerial orientation in Britain, and if there is a connection between the triad and total quality management (TQM). Latent variable analysis is used to expose the managerial orientations and cluster analysis to cover the similarities in the adoption of human resource practices. The article concludes that there are managerial orientations focused on high involvement and they are either integrated or have a connection to TQM.
