Abstract: | Casino gambling is used as a way to increase tax revenue and tourism around the world. In this study the effects of casinos in eight communities that have had casino gambling for at least four years are examined with social exchange theory. Residents of communities comment possible distruptive effects that belong to casino presence for instance different crimes, homelessness and suicides. Findings show that main part of residents do not perceive significant changes in most disruptive influences. Regardless findings vary for instance by whether the respondent was a gambler or non-gambler. |
