Abstract:This paper discusses John Boatright's claim "business ethics rests on a mistake". Ethics should not be achieved through managerial vision, discretion or responsibility; rather, ethics should shape the design of institutions that regulate business from the outside. According to Boatright, attention should be paid to the moral markets, not to the moral managers. The author suggests reasons why moral markets and moral management are compatible frameworks for corporate reform.
