Abstract:The whole issue in which this article is published considers the significant HRM challenges that determine the future academic research directions in Latin America. The authors of this article argue that the challenges of balancing global and local HRM approaches, focusing on people while reaching for performance and the whole area of managing in hybrid cultural and economic system all require the redefinition of strategic HR in terms of theories about social contracts. These theories consider various stakeholders and concentrate on the employment relationship as unit of analysis. The authors suggest that theoretically anchored research should guide the strategic HRM practices, taking into account the humanistic approach of Latin America and also the local labour market institutions.
