| Abstract: | This article examines differences between the economies of Russia and United States. Analysis is based on retrospective estimates of Russia's gross domestic product components. The GDP estimates are compared and cross-checked with the results of previous comparisons. This approach highlights the structure of the centrally planned economy and offer more reliable estimates of the level of Russia's economic development in the Soviet period. The comparison reveals that from 1960s to the 1980s there was a clear process of divergence between the two economies. |
