Abstract:This paper studies how moral values and societal norms affect emotion regulation within employment contexts. Based on literature on emotional labour and social psychology, the article looks into the concept of contextual emotional labour and aims to develop a conceptual standpoint of moral values and societal norms. The findings of the study reveal that due to the conflicting demands of societal and employment contexts, one may have to overlook one's moral values in order to be able to fulfil work requirements. The article states that suppressing the negative feelings caused by overlooking one's moral norms may have a negative effect on individuals and organizations. More attention to the issue is needed.
