Abstract:For the creation and commercialization of new products, processes and services, knowledge intensive services (KIS) play a key role. Based on a database of more than 2,000 firms and with the use of binary models, this study analyses the factors explaining the use of KIS by small and medium-sized firms. Specifically, examined are the services supplied by technological centres with the purpose of improving regional innovative potential. It is shown that demand for services increases with the size of the user firms. Spatial proximity btw. the user and the supplier of the KIS also appears to be a relevant factor.
