Abstract:The disappearance of enterprises by business failure is mostly studied on the level of management or macroeconomics. A third approach is retained here: the sectorial level of the industry in a strict sense. From previous analysis the variables of a transverse model with temporal lags are set up and applied on 32 industrial sectors for the 1980-1983 period. The results indicate the existence of a failure risk independent of the practiced activity. The best variable is the rate of the firms' creation /3 years before/. It suggests that there is a higher risk for new firms, systematically underestimated by the entrepreneurs.
