Abstract:Canadian researches studied the role of the decision making process in the selection (promotion) interviews. The cases of partiality, information distortion, presumption are examined. Empirical evidence was found that written information sources had dominant effects on the selection decisions. There were differences between the opinion of candidates and interviewers (in an uneven distribution among the selected and non-selected). Two possible interpretations of sharp polarization are mentioned. Several ways to a more reliable and more objective selection procedure are presented and analysed. Questioning contingent upon situations is proposed as well as the use of aptitude criteria of decision.
