Abstract:A review of network analysis of word-of-mouth referral behaviour in a natural environment, the employment of relational properties of tie strength and homophily to examine referral behaviour at micro and macro levels of enquiry, the different roles played by weak and strong social ties, the way weak ties display an important bridging function permitting information to travel from one distinct subgroup of referral actors to another subgroup in a broader social system and how strong ties were perceived to be more influential than weak ties and are utilized as sources of information for related goods.
