Abstract: | A multiple exponential server system with a single common queue is studied, where the servers have different service rates. It is assumed that jobs arrive to the queue according to a time-invariant Poisson process. Exact analysis for the mean response time in this situation appears to be complicated because the state space grows exponentially with the number of processors. A method is provided that reduces the state space and yields a simple numeric approximation very close to those obtained from simulation. The method can be applied in any such system that uses a threshold scheduling policy. |
