Abstract:The new forms of employee participation in firms shift the boundaries between the formal and informal spheres. They tend to transform informal into open participation, and they help form new communities within firms. Since the 1970s, a new conception of how economic efficiency should be attained has led to discovering different forms of worker professionality: it takes into account the really performed and not just the prescribed work. Supported by new technology, this concept lays more emphasis upon the workshop. It tries to exploit more intensively the know-how developed by the workers, giving more attention to the ideology of transparency (accountability) that would replace the ideology of class antagonisms.
