Abstract:Geometric programming is a popular and efficient method for optimizing the structural design of several engineering areas, like waste treatment plants, gas production facilities, and pressure vessels for chemical reactions. An approach is presented, using interval arithmetics, to sensivity analysis in geometrical programming. The ability to characterize the impact of changes in the problem parameters on the optimal solution is important for applications for theoretical as well as for practical reasons. Interval arithmetic offers a useful tool: by replacing the usual arithmetic operations on numbers with operations on intervals of numbers it offers the potential to model design solutions associated with a range of parameter values.
