Abstract:A straightforward life-cycle cost-benefit methodology is employed to determine the costs or benefits of completing nuclear generating units under construction in the United States. The investigation shows that almost for all regions, nuclear capacity under construction should not be completed. It is found that most regions either do not require the additional capacity of power, or needed capacity may be met by alternative forms of generation with a lower net cost needed than for completing the nuclear plants. State regulators should take findings into account when determining the fate of individual units.
