| Abstract: | The question of differential treatment in the traditional area of tariffs is reviewed and analyzed. First, the existing situation on tariffs is reviewed. The different tariff treatments include domestic legal duties, most-favoured-nation treatment, special preferences, free trade treatment, and generalized system of preferences. Trade flows are quantified according to different tariff arrangements. Then factors other than tariffs, and non-tariff measures, are referred to that affect the direction and geographical pattern of trade. The types of tariff reductions by developed countries are also suggested that would be beneficial for developing countries. |
