| Abstract: | The contemporary international debt crisis is discussed in the context of modern international relations. The background of the present situation is outlined. Main features of multilateral debt diplomacy are identified. Some of the main characteristics of debt rescue operations are examined, including the development of international trade and financial instruments. The fundamental shifts which have occurred in the methods of handling international debt since 1986 are analysed. The reasons for and effects of the growing breakdown of international consensus on international debt management policy are assessed. The role of the IMF is examined. |
