| Abstract: | Current perspectives on organizational decline are reviewed and important factors are integrated into a conceptual framework. In the model developed here, decline moves through stages: the organization is blind to the early stages of decline; it recognizes the need for change but takes no action; it takes action, but it is not right; it reaches a point of crisis; and it is dissolved. Additional research is needed to develop sensitivity to the conditions leading to decline and a better understanding of conditions that are common to declining organizations. |
