Abstract:The main emphasis of perestroika has been on a move away from past "administrative" methods towards new "economic" methods under which enterprises are allowed greater freedom to run their own affairs and are required to assume greater responsibility for the results. After examining some of the repercussions of these sweeping reforms on planning of production targets, the use of income, supplies, business strategy, work incentives, in particular remuneration, and new forms of work organisation, including individual labour activities, there is discussed the problems of unemployment and redeployment, the new rights of enterprises and selfmanagement.
