Abstract: | Several trends in demographics, the law and the marketplace are identified as changing the work environment during the next 15 years drastically. The transformation of the economy from industrial-based manufacturing to high-technology service is characterized by knowledge workers. Being able to make an impact on company decisions will be considered a right, rather than a privilege. The increasing number of women in the work force must be reflected in senior management positions. Workers must be compensated for what they know, not just for what they do. Capital investment in human resources will increase three to four times. Cost containment will focus on educational benefits and medical care. |
