Abstract: | Managerial weaknesses in the field of research and development are analyzed. An attempt is made for the redefinition of the manager's job. Some up-to-date tools that are available for improving the quality of the operations of a research laboratory are reviewed. Among others the following tools and methods are examined: flowcharting, leading indicators or quality indices, and Ishikawa or "fishbone" diagram and its negative, quality characteristics evolution diagram, quality management matrix, etc. The tools of quality management apply quite well to R and D. The importance of the commitment to learn on the part of management is emphasized. |
