Abstract: | Making a new product successful takes a combination of market savvy, creativity, skill, discipline, and tenacity. Above all, however, management is a critical element in a new product's success. Of the various areas to be managed, too often the fit between product design and the factory is overlooked. It is indicated that design-factory fit is a critical element in a new product's successful commercial manufacture. Indeed, unreliability of a new product can have a painful outcome as well. The consequences can be costly in field-service, warranty and customer-support expense, and in lost market share. |
