Abstract:The American style of management can be characterized as direct, aggressive, and impatient. Many companies are committed to risk-taking, innovative, dynamic, and seeing people as their most valuable resource. The international interviewees pointed out three major characteristics that separate the United States from other nations. The first is the sound infrastructure for conducting business. The next societal characteristic is a strong commitment to the philosophy of meritocracy, i.e. people in position must have appropriate abilities. The third important trait is the enormous size of the American economy. This helps kindle the spirit of meritocracy and laissez-faire.
