Abstract:The background of the international race against time is characterized. Henry Ford is mentioned as a model of visionary management who was pioneering in the race against time. Time as a critical success factor is increasingly gaining ground in research and development, in product innovation, product differentiation, in the field of social innovations. The so called real-time-management is shown to be absolutely necessary. Some tips are offered with regard to the conditions for success. These include the attitude of the management, the incentive systems, the economy of resources in investments, and principles of organizational structure.
