Abstract:It is shown that VAR models can be constructed both for national and supranational economies that yield results consistent with an aggregate supply and demand theoretical framework. The considerable autoregressive component driving many of the theoretically endogenous variables represents the major weakness. Energy price shocks are stronger in the more import-dependent EEC and Japanese economies. Money supply has the strongest impact in the US.
