Abstract: | The Industrial Sector Technology Use Model for the Personal Computer /ISTUM-PC/ is an end-use engineering energy demand forecasting model developed in 1978 for the US Department of Energy. It identifies the energy end-uses and associated technologies, both process-specific and generic, in each industrial branch. The evolution of the equipment stock is simulated as a function of product demand, retirement and retrofit of old equipment and economic competition between new technologies to meet new output requirements. A trial application of the model to the British Columbia pulp and paper industry demonstrates model's utility for a range of analysis; first of all, for forecasting long-run energy demand. |
