| Abstract: | The role of technological innovation in social and economic development is examined. The view of flexibility as the main characteristic of a production system is criticized. The importance of the integration of human and organizational aspects in technological change is emphasized. It is shown how human resistance to change can be an insurmountable obstacle to the diffusion of innovation. The innovative process is characterized in relation to the human resources. Human resource management can be a strategic tool as it is applied to the creation and diffusion of new technologies. Arguments are presented that the production of new behavioural and organizational rules as well as new professional identities can be an effective way of strategic adaptation. |
