| Abstract: | Since 1968, new provisions and, in particular, the abolition of central planning, has provided the Hungarian economy with far greater operating flexibility than other Comecon countries, thereby enabling the development of cooperative and private sectors. However, the State's policy towards these two forms of property remains restrictive. Recent developments aim at permitting Hungarian firms to operate under veritable market economy conditions. Their analysis illustrates the obstacles which must still be overcome in order to attain this objective. |
