Abstract:Country of origin has an effect on product evaluations but it is only one of several types of product information that could stimulate the formation of an initial concept of a product. When country of origin and intrinsic attribute information were presented in the same experimental session, subjects perceived country of origin as just another product attribute. When it was presented the day before, country of origin not only had a greater effect on product evaluations but it influenced the interpretation of attribute descriptions as well.
