Abstract: | The survival rate of small business start-ups is discouraging. However, through sound financial management, failure can be avoided. Nine financial causes of failure are listed: Inadequately managed cash and capital requirements: failure to analyze financial statements carefully; improper management of accounts receivable; under-utilization of assets; declining margins of profit; consider lowering prices or offering discounts; large increases in debt; maintaining inventories that are too large; spending excessively as earnings begin to rise. To provide time to stop gaps in short-term financing, forecast your cahs flow at least one quarter in advance. |
