Abstract:The increasing effects of foreign exchange rates on the global market and ways to plan for them are described. By making foreign exchange planning a part of overall long-term strategy. organizations can avoid its negative effects and even exploit its positive ones. It is shown how globalization affects currency movements, exchange rates and corporations' strategic competitive position. In a case study it is assumed that three companies, from the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom, are competing for the German market for telephone switches. The conclusion is clear: currency levels have a major effect on the competitive position of firms. The steps of an appropriate corporate response are identified.
