| Abstract: | Strategic alliances have been developing to make some new forms of internationalization. Their impact on international investments, research and development and transaction costs is examined. Some characteristics of cooperative strategies are investigated with the aid of Dunning's "eclectic theory". A new approach to the study of the multinational firm is presented. It is shown how competitive and comparative advantages are evolving on the basis of cooperative agreements and international joint ventures. An international rearrangement of the organization of production processes due to strategic alliances is demonstrated. The interpretative power of the theory of strategic alliances is illustrated. |
