| Abstract: | Some historical facts about the relationship between industrial policy and trade policy are presented and analyzed. It is shown how this relationship is reflected in macroeconomic and microeconomic theory. The case of multimarket oligopoly is examined. Tariffs and subsidies under oligopoly are investigated. Industrial policy as a potential cause of trade distortion is characterized. Some fundamental principles of optimal trade and industrial policy under oligopoly are suggested. A few new theoretical models are described and the problems of their practical application are considered. Special attention is paid to the policy impact on research and development. |
