Abstract:A successful integration of the Eastern European countries in the European system being the primary objective of the EC and these countries, the elimination of duties and the acceptance of the rules of origin is a fundamental requirement. Elimination of trade restrictions, discrimination and of unfair trade practices is discussed, and the EEC-EFTA precedent is analyzed. Basic requisites for the creation of an efficient and effective institutional framework are evaluated, "classic" and second generation requirements are distinguished. Based on EEC-EFTA free trade experience the importance of adequate trade provisions in the Second Generation Agreement is emphasized.
