Abstract: | The growing openness of the world economy, fostered by trade liberalization programmes and the formation of various free trade blocks and common markets, together with the expansion of multinational companies has served to sharpen the competitive pressures facing UK companies in international markets. Firms adopt different approaches in servicing their foreign markets. A subsidiary company tends to be preferred to licensing or to using agents. The results of a study are reported of the foreign market servicing strategies of a sample of UK manufacturing firms in their attempts to advance and protect their international competitiveness. |
