Abstract:Recent years have seen Shanghai Harbour faced with two difficulties: the channels leading to the sea are not deep enough, and contradictions exist between the Huangpu River harbour area and metropolis in their development. The core harbour of the harbour group in the Yangtze River Delta, however, is none other than Shanghai Harbour, for it enjoys irreplaceable advantage in location, being the central hub of transport from the south to the north along the coast, of oceangoing navigation and of the Yangtze River inland water transportation. It is also a multi-function port of transit, a key international centre of economy, finance and trade.
