Abstract: | The perspective of strategic change processes (strategic choice and ecology) and system dynamics assume that negative feedback drives them toward equilibrium states of adaptation to the environment. This paper proposes a third perspective: complex adaptive systems. The framework is provided by the modern science of complexity: the study of non-linear and network feedback systems, theory of chaos, artificial life, and self-organization. Here system dynamics are characterized by positive and negative feedback as systems co-evolve toward unpredictable outcomes. |
