Abstract:Aready in 1928 (!) Schmalenbach has stressed that a change in cost structures which leads to fixed cost intensive companies (FCIC) will influence competitive rules. The increase of fixed costs will encourage companies to lower prices in cases of demand erosions, because companies will strive for employment. Two empirical studies show that today we are on the way to FCICs so that we should be more concerned about handling employment risks.
