Abstract: | This study examines the population ecology framework to incorporate international competition and legitimation over time in the worldwide airline and off-shore oil-drilling industries. Hypotheses regarding cost-density effects on births of firms were tested on three major subpopulations (United States, other industrial nations, non-industrial nations). Findings suggest that subpopulations of the United States and other industrial countries initially encourage foundings in each other but later compete with each other. |
