Abstract: | This article examines the problems with sustained product innovation in 15 firms. Large, mature organizations seem to be unable to connect new products with organizational resources, processes and strategy: innovators do not have pover to make these connections. These organizations should reconfigure their systems of power to become capable of sustained innovation and offer recommendations for practice. A new theory is developed to explain, why inability to sustain product innovation is so engrained in these large, mature organizations and to identify the changes that must be made before they can become consistently innovative over time. |
