Abstract:E-procurement offers both significant cost savings and an accompanying profit boost. The paper answers whether it has been overhyped. As with all new technology, it's not just what you do that counts, but how you do it. The author states that in practice, e-procurement and e- sourcing need to be considered together, being inter related elements of supply chain management. IT system providers recognise the interdependence. SAP, for example, offers a solution called mySAP Supplier Relationship Management, covering the buying process from sourcing through to electronic payment. Te paper states that the need to bring suppliers with you is obvious key to e-procurement success; if suppliers don't have the IT capability to participate, the whole system breaks down.
