Abstract:The last three years was a very bad period for the Gulf banking, including the United Arab Emirates. Now there are encouraging signs but the banks have not entirely recovered. In 1986 the banks had a lot of bad or doubtful loans but little new debt was piled up. In the banking sector cost cutting and new services have begun to counterbalance this burden. The worst is definitely behind the banks. And UAE (especially Dubai) offers a special set of incentives for banks interested in trade and finance.
