Abstract:China has established a number of special economic zones to attract foreign investors. One of the main attractions to investors has been cheap labour, but the social background of the Chinese workers, their ideology and work habits often lead to misunderstandings and strained relations with their foreign managers. A number of official restrictions on employing labour only become evident to employers after an investment has been made. Potential investors are becoming aware of such restrictions and China will have to adopt a more liberal regime.
