Abstract:The business environment is becoming increasingly international, involving cultural and epistemological differences. This is why recent business problems require new ways of analysis. Some lessons for Japanese and American firms regarding labor market competition in foreign countries, product design adaptation, marketing adaptation etc. are summarized. The mindscape theory, originated in cybernetics and systems science, and developed in a number of applied sciences is shortly reviewed. Mindscape theory is used in American failure to increase export, agricultural policy failure in Japan, many firms' unsuccessful adaptation to culture in foreign countries, and new aspects of qualitative methodology.
