Abstract: | Problems in international business abound due to cultural differences in the concept and practice of contract. Some of these differences are elucidated. A cross-cultural comparative study of socially compelling expectations and obligations including the cultural context of gift-giving, bribing and return service in Poland, Russia, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Greece , Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand is provided. Casual loop analysis is used where applicable. It is the tragedy that in the countries of Central Europe where services and things are everything and money is nothing, a ruling clique of misinformed pseudomonetarists can replace the needed changes by state intervention alien to business. |
